Chapter One: In Which We Arrive in London

We took the red-eye. It seemed like a good idea at the time, and it turned out to be a good idea, but while it was happening, it was a very very bad idea. Kelly couldn't figure out how to make her seat recline for at least two hours. We didn't get much sleep, and then Sara was extremely disappointed with the breakfast, which was egg-free, bacon-free, and cheese-free.

We got through Heathrow very quickly (Kelly the foreigner got through a lot quicker than Sara with her EU passport) and caught the tube straight to Russell Square.

Whence we made our way across the park to our little inn.

It's right around the corner from the British Museum, where we ran into some of Hadrian's legionaries.

Nice modern interior - kind of looks like an airport

except for all the legionaries wandering about.

And all these old shells and coins and stuff.

It looks like we may have some luck with birds -- have already found an ivory-billed woodpecker!

We had dinner (bangers and mash, steak pie, and the obligatory pints) at a pub near the Museum after visiting a Waitrose (grocery store) in a shopping complex near us. This is the spot where Sara, being sleep-deprived, thought she saw a couple with a pigeon on a leash. These crazy Londoners!

Good Lord, what are all those soldiers doing everywhere??? Trust you to arrive during Caesar's invasion of Britain. Lovely photo of Russell Square station brickwork. I think there's something suspect about that bird, though.
